Michele Gelfand, a professor of organizational behavior at Stanford Graduate School of Business, co-authored a new paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences with Ying Lin of Hong Kong University and Jackson Liu of MIT's Sloan School of Management. ^[1] The study found that people from lower socioeconomic classes are less likely to negotiate their salaries compared to those from higher socioeconomic classes. ^[2] Upper-class graduates negotiated a pay bump of about $6,450 higher than their lower-class counterparts, which compounds to nearly $800,000 more in earnings by retirement. ^[3] Mexican entrepreneurs in the United States are diversifying their business focus from traditional migrant-serving sectors to technology, specialized services, and binational operations. ^[4] In a study with more than 600 recent MBA graduates from a top U.S. business school, lower-class graduates were more likely to accept the salary they were given rather than negotiate. ^[5] Elizabeth Salamanca Pacheco, dean of the School of Business and Economics at the Universidad de las Américas Puebla, stated that this shift reflects greater maturity in the Mexican business ecosystem in the US. ^[6] KPMG reported that Mexico attracted $440.8 million in venture capital during the second quarter of 2026, making it the Latin American market with the highest financing in that period. ^[7]
