Governor Jenniffer González Colón announced on a Wednesday that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved an additional drought disaster declaration for Puerto Rico. ^[1] The U.S. Department of Agriculture approved a new drought disaster declaration for Puerto Rico that incorporates three municipalities as primary areas and 16 as contiguous zones. ^[2] The declaration also enables the availability of disaster loans for economic damage (EIDL) from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for eligible small businesses and non-profits located in the designated municipalities. ^[3] The USDA designated three municipalities as primary disaster areas and sixteen as contiguous areas under the new drought declaration. ^[4] Eligible agricultural producers in the designated areas can request assistance through the Emergency Loan Program of the Farm Service Agency of the USDA. ^[5] Small businesses and non-profit organizations that have suffered economic difficulties due to the drought can apply for Economic Injury Disaster Loans from the Small Business Administration. ^[6] The three municipalities included as primary areas in this declaration are Barranquitas, Caguas, and Guayama. ^[7]
