More than 40 per cent of children under five in Pakistan are stunted, and the country faces a maternal mortality rate of 155 deaths per 100,000 live births. ^[1] The 'Act For Nutrition: The Emergency We Can No Longer Ignore' conference concluded on Wednesday at Islamabad's Serena Hotel with experts urging urgent action on Pakistan's malnutrition and stunting crisis. ^[2] Tetra Pak launched a new food packaging solution called Tetra Recart that covers categories from tomato paste to canned tuna. ^[3] Director at the International Research Force Dr Hana Mahmood said focus on nutrition was needed at the community, systemic, and legislative levels. ^[4] Malnutrition costs Pakistan upwards of $17 billion annually, according to conference data. ^[5] Gaye Atakan, Tetra Pak's Marketing Director for Central Eurasia, stated that consumers increasingly value packaging that is easy to carry, user-friendly, and has a lower environmental impact. ^[6] The carton-based packaging solution for tuna was developed through a collaboration between Tetra Pak and the Spanish seafood producer Jealsa. ^[7] The global tuna market is expected to grow by 12% to reach 12.4 billion units by 2030 due to increasing demand for affordable protein options with long shelf life. ^[8]
