Two workers were pulled out alive on Friday from a tunnel linked to a hydropower station on the Trishuli River, nine days after an ice, rock, and mud slide swept through a valley in Nepal, killing more than 1,200 people and displacing tens of thousands. ^[1] Home Minister Sudan Gurung stated on Friday that two hydropower workers were pulled from a tunnel buried by debris in Nepal following catastrophic flooding. ^[2] Officials and rescue workers believe the August 26 collapse of a glacier on the upper reaches of the Trishuli River trapped at least 900 people in tunnels related to six hydropower projects along the river. ^[3] The two workers pulled from the tunnel at the Upper Trishuli 3A Hydropower Station are Sanjay Sah, a mechanical foreman, and Kabir Maharjan, a mechanical supervisor, according to Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha's office. ^[4] Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha confirmed that one person was safely rescued from the Trishuli 3A tunnel, followed shortly afterwards by a second. ^[5] Rescue teams in Nepal have recovered more than 1,250 bodies, and more than 5,000 are missing, after the gigantic wave triggered by a rock and ice avalanche roared down the China-Nepal border. ^[6] The two rescued workers were identified as Sanjay Shah, a 30-year-old mechanical foreman, and Kabir Maharjan, a 45-year-old mechanical supervisor. ^[7] The two survivors are being taken to a hospital in Kathmandu. ^[8]
