Sy Mamabolo, chief electoral officer of the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC), said on the nomination deadline day that the commission's reports showed no evidence of a malfunction in its candidate nomination system, while acknowledging possible issues elsewhere in the broader internet or electricity ecosystem. ^[1] The SIR 3.0 draft voter list has recorded over 6.15 crore deletions across 17 states and union territories in India. ^[2] South Africa's African National Congress (ANC) said it was unable to complete its candidate nominations for the 2026 local government elections because of what it called a 'systemic challenge' in the Electoral Commission of SA's candidate nomination system. ^[3] The IEC set aside 2026-09-04 to 2026-09-16 to address discrepancies in candidate nominations, but chief electoral officer Sy Mamabolo cautioned that this period is not an extension of the nomination deadline and that after the cut-off no candidate can be replaced or changed, even in the event of death. ^[4] The MK Party filed a legal challenge over the outcome of South Africa's 2024 national and provincial elections, alleging problems with the IEC's systems; the Electoral Court heard the matter on 2026-06-17 and reserved judgment. ^[5] Delhi has recorded the highest proportion of deletions, with one in every three voters seeing their name omitted in the draft stage. ^[6] The draft stage of the SIR 3.0 list is currently underway across the specified regions. ^[7] The SIR 3.0 initiative involves updating the electoral roll by removing names that do not meet eligibility criteria. ^[8]
