The National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) reported that Colombia's unemployment rate fell to 8.1% in July, down from 8.8% in July 2025. ^[1] The municipality of Sincelejo announced that the section of Calle 21 between Carrera 20 and 21, known as the 'Calle del Hambre', will be converted into a tourist attraction. ^[2] Public administration, defense, education, and human health care contributed the most to job growth, accounting for approximately 405,000 new jobs and 1.7 percentage points of total employment growth. ^[3] Self-employed workers drove the largest portion of employment growth, increasing from 9.77 million to 10.18 million, representing 41.5% of all employed Colombians. ^[4] The number of employed people in Colombia increased from 23.9 million in July 2025 to 24.5 million in July 2026, an increase of 578,000 jobs. ^[5] The agriculture, livestock, hunting, forestry, and fishing sector experienced the largest reduction in employment, losing approximately 204,000 workers compared to July 2025. ^[6] The global labor participation rate increased from 64.6% to 64.8%, and the employment rate rose from 58.9% to 59.5%. ^[7] First Lady Sofía Méndez de Acuña announced the project in articulation with the Cecar university to launch the urban intervention project Co-Lugar. ^[8] The project aims to renew the sector and project it as a gastronomic, cultural, and tourist experience without losing its identity. ^[9] The renovation will include new pavement, new lighting, installation of a canopy for comfort against sun and rain, aesthetic adjustments, and a welcome sign. ^[10]
