Two former employees of Spanish singer Julio Iglesias filed a new lawsuit against him on Thursday alleging sexual assault and forced labor. ^[1] Julio Iglesias denied the accusations, calling them absolutely false and stating he did not abuse, coerce, or disrespect any woman. ^[2] The women claim these incidents occurred in 2021 at properties in the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic. ^[3] Women's Link Worldwide argues that Spanish courts have jurisdiction under a law allowing the investigation of crimes committed abroad by Spanish citizens if the acts are also crimes in the country where they occurred. ^[4] A Spanish court previously archived an initial complaint filed in January, ruling it incompetent to judge facts that allegedly occurred in the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic. ^[5] The two women allege they suffered sexual abuse and mistreatment while working at Iglesias' properties in the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic in 2021. ^[6] Women's Link Worldwide stated that Spanish courts are competent to investigate crimes committed outside Spain if there are relevant links to Spain and the act is also a crime in the country where it occurred. ^[7] The two women alleged they suffered sexual assault and mistreatment while working at Julio Iglesias' properties in the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic in 2021. ^[8] Women's Link Worldwide stated that the women filed a complaint on September 3 alleging continuous sexual harassment, sexual assault, and the imposition of forced and degrading working conditions. ^[9]
