Fake Ozempic pens sold online may not contain the active ingredient semaglutide but could instead contain completely different chemicals. ^[1] The Czech State Institute for Drug Control (SÚKL) warns that dangerous packaging for fake Ozempic injections has not yet appeared in official reports from licensed distributors but poses a risk from illegal online sales. ^[2] Research presented at the ENDO 2026 conference reported that people taking semaglutide for type 2 diabetes had a lower rate of bone fractures compared with those taking other anti-obesity medications. ^[3] The study data indicated that semaglutide treatment produced a greater reduction in body mass index and fewer fractures (794) than the control group (1045 fractures) among the type 2 diabetes patients analyzed. ^[4] A retrospective observational cohort study was conducted on 12 adults with Prader-Willi syndrome at a UK academic hospital specialist clinic. ^[5] Researchers found no significant overall weight loss on semaglutide, but there was a significant stabilization of weight gain prior to treatment. ^[6] There was a significant decrease in hyperphagia scores from the Hyperphagia Questionnaire for Clinical Trials with a p-value of 0.003. ^[7] Semaglutide, a medication used for weight loss, has been introduced as a tablet in Germany, with plans for a similar launch in Austria. ^[8] Historical cases of similar fake injections have resulted in insulin shock for non-diabetics, causing severe hypoglycemia, convulsions, or unconsciousness. ^[9] Some fake injection pens contain only non-sterile water, which can cause severe infections and sepsis after administration. ^[10] Jairo Noreña, MD, former endocrinology fellow at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, California, and colleagues evaluated changes in body mass index and fracture incidence in adults with type 2 diabetes taking semaglutide, dulaglutide, or the oral weight-loss drugs phentermine/topiramate and bupropion/naltrexone. ^[11] The study authors recommended that prospective studies be done to confirm the semaglutide bone-protective findings. ^[12]
