Sara Davies, a Dragons' Den star, has purchased a meaningful stake in the online marketplace Not On The High Street and joined as a non-executive director. ^[1] France began enforcing an environmental tax on fast fashion companies to address the surge in sales of cheap clothing available on e-commerce sites, including Shein and Temu. ^[2] German private equity firm Executive Equity Partners bought Not On The High Street at the start of the year and hired Pascal Schuster as chief executive. ^[3] Sara Davies stated that Not On The High Street is no longer trying to compete with Chinese online marketplaces such as Shein and Temu. ^[4] Total transaction value on the platform was £84.2 million in the year to March 2025, down from £230.2 million in the year to March 2021. ^[5] The fees, mandated by a law passed in June regarding 'fast fashion,' start at 0.25 euros for a men's undergarment or a pair of socks and reach up to 14 euros for a coat. ^[6] The tax cap is set at 50% of the product's initial price before taxes. ^[7] This development exacerbates challenges for Shein following a decision by the EU and the US to abolish tax-exempt low-value packages and impose a flat 3-euro temporary duty on items from platforms outside the EU. ^[8]
