On September 4, the Technical Commission of Experts at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) presented its final report on the undergraduate admissions process for the 2026-2027 academic period. ^[1] UNAM rector Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas received the final report from the Technical Commission of Experts for the review of the 2026/2027-1 undergraduate entrance exam on September 4, 2026. ^[2] Rector Leonardo Lomelí confirmed that entrance exams will remain in-person until conditions are met to guarantee the security of online applications. ^[3] The Rectorate of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) announced on an unspecified date in 2026 that it will review and modify the structure and admission processes following failures detected in the 2026-2027-1 selection contest. ^[4] In response to the initial anomalies, UNAM decided to administer a control exam in person to verify the originally obtained results. ^[5] The final report is expected to explain the commission's findings and provide recommendations to prevent a similar situation from recurring. ^[6] Commission president Eduardo Barzana García stated that the safest format for the exam at this moment is in-person digital application assisted by computers. ^[7] The rector committed that as long as necessary conditions are not met to guarantee online exam application, entrance exams will be in-person with pre-loaded electronic devices at various venues. ^[8] UNAM rector Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas acknowledged that the University and its Rector recognize and assume the failures and errors that may have occurred in the recent remote selection contest. ^[9] The number of results with more than 90 correct answers increased to 5.1% in 2024 and 3.7% in the historical average, which the commission classified as a more marked relative atypicality. ^[10] The Technical Commission identified a lack of planning, coordination, and operational validation gaps in the exam design, which resulted in atypical results. ^[11]
