Colombian National Police arrested 17 people during operations in eight municipalities of the Bolivar department over the weekend. ^[1] The Department of Police of Bolívar, Colombia, reported that homicides in its jurisdiction fell 41% in August 2026 compared to August 2025. ^[2] Authorities arrested individuals for crimes including the manufacture, trafficking, or carrying of drugs and firearms, theft, domestic violence, violence against public officials, and illicit exercise of monopoly activities. ^[3] Police operations led to the seizure of 173 doses of drugs, including marijuana and cocaine, which were removed from circulation. ^[4] The operations took place in the municipalities of Villanueva, San Juan Nepomuceno, Mompox, Magangué, Regidor, Arjona, El Carmen de Bolívar, and San Estanislao de Kostka. ^[5] According to the police's official figures, 17 homicides were recorded in August 2025 and 10 in August 2026 in the municipalities under the jurisdiction of the Police of Bolívar. ^[6] Colonel Diego Fernando Pinzón Poveda, commander of the Department of Police of Bolívar, said the reduction is an important result for Bolívar and commits them to continue working with greater determination. ^[7] The police attributed the decline to security strategies including urban and rural patrols, controls on people and vehicles, intelligence work, criminal investigation, and focused plans in high-risk areas. ^[8]
