Two workers were rescued alive from the Trishuli 3A hydroelectric tunnel in Nepal after being trapped for nine days by devastating floods that killed more than 1,200 people. ^[1] The operator of the Trishuli 3A hydroelectric plant confirmed that a 30-year-old worker and a 45-year-old worker were rescued and their condition is stable. ^[2] Authorities fear that more than 150 people are trapped in approximately six other hydroelectric tunnels where separate rescue operations are currently underway. ^[3] Rescue engineers are pumping air into hydroelectric tunnels as part of a large-scale operation to save over 5,000 missing workers employed on tunnel networks along the river. ^[4] Sureš Raut, a high-ranking official of the Nepal Electricity Authority present at the rescue site, told the BBC that rescuers are providing oxygen to Šah. ^[5] Authorities stated that hundreds of workers remain missing in the tunnel systems of the affected hydroelectric plants. ^[6]
