Authorities intervened around the Immediate Reaction Unit (URI) of the Fiscal Unit located at the intersection of 41st Street and 41st Avenue in Barranquilla to recover public circulation zones. ^[1] The National Police of Colombia launched the security plan 'Por unos BRE seguros y sin tregua al delito' for Barranquilla and its metropolitan area on 2026-09-01, running through 2026-12-31. ^[2] During the intervention, vehicles and motorcycles were removed from unauthorized locations, including a group of vehicles that had been parked in the area for several years. ^[3] The irregular parking of vehicles and motorcycles had generated difficulties for mobility in the sector prior to the intervention. ^[4] The Sectional Directorate of Fiscal Courts of the Atlántico managed the operation in coordination with the District Mayor's Office of Barranquilla, the Office for Security and Civic Coexistence, and the Traffic and Road Safety Secretariat. ^[5] Colonel Miguel Fernando Sastoque Segura, commander of the Metropolitan Police of Barranquilla, leads the plan in coordination with the District Mayor's Office of Barranquilla. ^[6] The plan deploys 6,500 uniformed officers, with more than 3,500 assigned exclusively to Barranquilla and more than 2,000 to the metropolitan area, according to the Metropolitan Police of Barranquilla (Mebar). ^[7] The plan includes special operations against high-impact crimes such as homicides, local drug trafficking, theft, extortion, and personal injuries, with additional controls on 2026-12-07, 2026-12-24, 2026-12-25, 2026-12-31, and 2027-01-01, according to the Metropolitan Police of Barranquilla (Mebar). ^[8]
