Yong Hye-in, a candidate for Minister of Gender Equality and Family and a member of the Basic Income Party, was reported to the Seoul Police Agency on 2026-04-02 for allegedly violating the Political Funds Act. ^[1] The Basic Income Party's Yong Hye-in, nominated for the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, was reported to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency by the Citizens' Committee for People's Livelihood on 2026-04-02 for alleged abuse of power. ^[2] According to Lee Jong-bae, Yong Hye-in's political fund records from 2020 to 2024 show a total usage of 539.59 million won, of which 293.6 million won (58.3%) was paid as special party fees to the Basic Income Party. ^[3] Lee Jong-bae alleged that Yong Hye-in appointed her husband, Park, as a paid party official for the Basic Income Party and used political funds under the name of special party fees to pay his salary. ^[4] Lee Jong-bae stated that if the special party fees were used to provide economic benefits to the spouse, it would constitute an improper use of political funds under Article 2, Paragraph 3 of the Political Funds Act. ^[5] Joo Jin-woo of the People Power Party pointed out on 2026-04-02 that Yong Hye-in bought a house in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province in April 2021 and sold it to a Chinese national in March 2022 for a 20 million won profit. ^[6] Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party, stated on 2026-04-02 that Yong Hye-in's appointment feels unfair to the 2030 generation, comparing the situation to a lioness being attacked by crocodiles in the Serengeti. ^[7] The Citizens' Committee for People's Livelihood argued that even if the trip was official, Yong Hye-in's parents were not eligible to use the VIP lounge, constituting abuse of power. ^[8]
