A flood in Trishuli Bazaar, Nuwakot district, Nepal, on approximately 2026-04-09 washed away a row of four homes, leaving a black-and-white dog sitting on the muddy site, refusing to leave. ^[1] Catastrophic floods have struck Nepal and parts of China, with the death toll exceeding 1,000 victims according to the latest data. ^[2] Animal rescue volunteer Rita Gurung told TOI that workers shifted strategy to leaving dry food and water near the dog every few hours, and that it only takes a bite when the road is quiet. ^[3] Nepal volunteer relief worker Bikram Thapa told TOI that workers tried offering the dog biscuits and calling it by common pet names, but the dog refuses to turn his head or leave the destroyed home site. ^[4] No worker at the site could identify the dog's owners or which of the four destroyed homes it belonged to, but its repeatedly returned to the same shrined doorway and refuses to cross the former yard boundary. ^[5] In the Nuwakot district, a black-and-white dog remains at the site of four destroyed houses, refusing to leave despite heavy machinery clearing the debris. ^[6] Nepal authorities reported 987 confirmed deaths and 3,916 missing people, including 583 foreign nationals, while Chinese authorities reported 16 deaths. ^[7] Volunteers attempted to lure the dog away with biscuits and calls, but it did not turn its head or move from the location of its former home. ^[8]
