Yireung County in South Korea announced on March 3rd that it will directly operate a special transport service for people with mobility challenges starting this month. ^[1] Gyeongnam Province secured 11.68 trillion KRW in the 2027 national budget, representing an increase of 59.19 billion KRW (5.3%) compared to the previous year's 11.89 trillion KRW. ^[2] The county deployed a total of 10 vehicles for the service, with 8 units placed in Yireung-eup and 2 units in Burim-myeon. ^[3] The special transport service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to support the movement of people with mobility challenges regardless of time. ^[4] Yireung County became the first local government in Gyeongnam province to directly operate a special transport service instead of outsourcing it to private entities. ^[5] Gyeongnam officials announced plans to reorganize the necessity and urgency of the omitted projects and collaborate with local members of parliament to demand increased funding during the National Assembly review process. ^[6] The 300 million KRW budget for the first year of the 'Space Industry Specialized 3D Printing Technology Integration Testing Center' project was not included in the government proposal. ^[7] The budget for industrial and R&D sectors increased by 86.4% to 180.7 billion KRW, driven by investments in physical AI, aerospace, small modular reactors (SMR), and defense industries. ^[8]
