Anthropic, the creator of the AI assistant Claude, signed a contract worth approximately $35 billion to lease computing power from Lambda, a provider supported by Nvidia, according to a source close to the file speaking to AFP on Monday. ^[1] Anthropic PBC agreed to a $35 billion computing contract with Lambda, a cloud services provider backed by Nvidia Corp., to rapidly expand its AI infrastructure capacity. ^[2] According to an AFP count, the only published contracts for Anthropic exceed $130 billion in total value, while the company's valuation approaches $1 trillion ahead of a potential autumn IPO. ^[3] Anthropic also signed a separate contract worth approximately $45 billion over six weeks with the British company Nscale, also supported by Nvidia, for a site in West Virginia. ^[4] The six-year contract covers a data center in Texas where Lambda will install servers equipped with Nvidia chips to lease to Anthropic in response to growing demand for Claude. ^[5] Anthropic recently agreed to invest $45 billion to lease capacity from Nscale in West Virginia and signed cloud service agreements worth $50 billion with Fluidstack Ltd. and $45 billion with SpaceX. ^[6] Hut 8 is developing the data center in Nueces County, Texas, as part of the project, while Nvidia will serve as the lessee of the facility. ^[7] The deal is part of Anthropic's infrastructure push ahead of its planned IPO, following a $45 billion contract with Nscale for a data center in West Virginia announced the previous week. ^[8] The Wall Street Journal reported that Nvidia itself holds the lease for the data center, which is being developed by Hut 8, a former crypto mining company. ^[9] Nvidia agreed to invest $3.5 billion in MediaTek Inc., marking its largest direct investment outside the United States. ^[10] Anthropic's added capacity is meant to keep up with growing demand for its AI model Claude and its coding tool Claude Code. ^[11]
