A 72-year-old woman died after falling from rocks into the sea at La Esperanza beach in Manatí, Puerto Rico, on Tuesday afternoon. ^[1] Idalmi Guzmán Rosario, a 72-year-old woman from Arecibo, was identified as the victim of a drowning incident at La Esperanza beach in Manatí on September 1, 2026. ^[2] The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m. when the victim and her 41-year-old daughter climbed onto rocks to observe the beach, and a strong wave swept them away. ^[3] The woman was originally from Arecibo but currently resided in the state of Florida. ^[4] The woman's 41-year-old daughter was present during the incident and sustained minor injuries. ^[5] Homicide agent Vanessa Meléndez of the Homicide Division took over the investigation in collaboration with the on-duty prosecutor. ^[6] The victim's daughter sustained minor injuries in the incident. ^[7] Both the woman and her daughter were surprised by strong waves and fell into the sea, resulting in the woman's death. ^[8] The Negociado de Manejo de Emergencias de Manatí confirmed the death of the 72-year-old woman. ^[9] The woman's daughter survived the incident but suffered minor injuries. ^[10]
