Arturo 'N' is suspected of participating in the transfemicide of Paola Buenrostro, which occurred in September 2016 and is considered an emblematic case for violence against trans women in Mexico City. ^[1] The General Attorney's Office of the City of Mexico (FGJCDMX) announced the arrest of Arturo 'N' on August 31 in the municipality of Nicolás Romero, State of Mexico. ^[2] The General Prosecutor's Office of Mexico City (FGJCDMX) announced on a Monday the arrest of Arturo 'N' for the transfemicide of Paola Buenrostro, which occurred in 2016. ^[3] On August 31, 2026, agents of the Policía de Investigación (PDI) arrested Arturo 'N' in the El Tráfico neighborhood of Nicolás Romero, State of Mexico. ^[4] Paola Buenrostro, a trans woman, was shot and killed on the morning of September 30, 2016, after boarding Arturo 'N's vehicle following a service she had contracted. ^[5] In 2024, the Código Penal de la Ciudad de México was reformed to include transfeminicide as an autonomous crime, a change known as the Ley Paola Buenrostro, driven by pressure from trans organizations and the victim's social family. ^[6] The Comisión de Derechos Humanos del Distrito Federal issued Recommendation 02/2019, which recognized Paola Buenrostro's case as the first transfeminicide and cited deficiencies in the initial investigation, lack of gender identity recognition, and secondary victimization of a colleague. ^[7] According to the investigation, Paola Buenrostro boarded a vehicle hired by Arturo 'N' in the early hours of September 30, 2016, and was subsequently shot dead. ^[8] The killing of Paola Buenrostro was the first case recognized as a transfemicide by the former Human Rights Commission of the Federal District, which issued Recommendation 02/2019. ^[9] Arturo 'N' was located and apprehended by the Investigation Police (PDI) in the El Tráfico neighborhood of Nicolás Romero, Estado de México, almost a decade after a judge issued an arrest warrant against him. ^[10] On October 19, 2016, a judge issued an arrest warrant against Arturo 'N', but he remained at large for years until his arrest on August 31, 2024. ^[11]
