Hugo Calle Forrest was appointed as the new director of the Museo Antropológico y de Arte Contemporáneo (MAAC) in Guayaquil, Ecuador, replacing Stephanie García. ^[1] Romina Muñoz resigned from the Vice Ministry of Culture after allegations that Education Minister Gilda Alcívar requested her resignation. ^[2] Stephanie García confirmed to EXPRESO that she was dismissed from the MAAC on August 25, 2026. ^[3] The dismissal of Stephanie García occurred weeks after the Vice Minister of Culture, Romina Muñoz, left her position. ^[4] Calle previously served as the executive director of the MAAC in 2023, overseeing a network that included the Nahim Isaías Museum, Presley Norton Museum, Amantes de Sumpa Museum, and the Guayas Historical Archive. ^[5] Hugo Calle Forrest is an anthropologist with a specialization in Cultural and Heritage Management, a tourism license, and master's degrees in Cultural Management from the University of Girona, History from the University of Barcelona, and International Sciences and Diplomacy. ^[6] At the time of the announcement, all MAAC activities were being conducted in the exterior areas or the library while interior renovation work continued at the building located on Malecón 2000. ^[7]
