After Usha's family arrived and accused him, Sujit Rajput confessed to throwing her into the river, saying he was angry that she talked to another man. ^[1] Sujit Rajput said he pushed his wife Usha from a bridge into the Ganga river during a dispute on the way back from her maternal home. ^[2] Police in Unnao district, India, arrested Sujeet Rajput, 22, after eyewitness accounts and his version of events raised suspicion that he pushed his wife Usha, 20, into the Ganga river. ^[3] Police have taken Sujit Rajput into custody in connection with the incident. ^[4] Sujit Rajput (21), a resident of Ghazipur village in the Bithoor police station area of Kanpur Nagar, brought his wife Usha (19) to her maternal home in Marauda Manjhwarra village under Safipur Kotwali on a Friday morning. ^[5] As of Saturday, Usha, 20, remained untraced, and divers were searching the Ganga but were hampered by darkness and the strong current. ^[6] Eyewitnesses said Sujeet Rajput and his wife Usha were returning from her parental home when they began arguing, and that Sujeet allegedly accused her of having an affair and pushed her over the Pariyar-Bithoor bridge into the river. ^[7] Sujeet Rajput called police immediately after the incident and claimed that Usha had jumped into the river herself after complaining of stomach pain. ^[8]
