Seven bases of the Colombian Police and Army have been attacked by terrorist groups during the first three weeks of President Abelardo de la Espriella's government. ^[1] On August 31, 2026, at 11:15 p.m., a car bomb attack occurred outside the police station in Los Patios, located in the patio centro zone. ^[2] The attack resulted in the death of citizen Jhon Endry Sandoval and injuries to 11 other people. ^[3] Authorities attribute these attacks to the ELN and the dissidents of the FARC, with the Army specifically suspecting the Carlos Patiño Front of the FARC General Staff regarding the attack on the El Patía barracks. ^[4] On August 31, a car bomb exploded at the Police Station in Los Patios, Norte de Santander, killing one civilian named Jhon Endry Sandoval and injuring eleven people, including two police officers, one of whom suffered the amputation of a lower limb. ^[5] The attacks have resulted in a total of two deaths and 25 injuries among civilians, police officers, and military personnel across the departments of Norte de Santander, Cauca, Bolívar, and Cesar. ^[6] A Security Council led by President Abelardo de la Espriella will be convened in Cúcuta to adopt necessary security actions. ^[7] The Los Patios Mayor's office rejected the act of violence and stated that Los Patios is wounded but remains standing. ^[8]
