Boyacá Governor Carlos Amaya stated on August 31, 2026, that the department requires over $27 billion in additional funding from the National Government to guarantee the School Meals Program (PAE) during 2027. ^[1] The Soledad Education Secretariat is conducting nutritional screening days for beneficiaries of the School Meal Program (PAE) to assess their nutritional conditions and detect potential health risks. ^[2] Governor Carlos Amaya criticized the national policy for penalizing territories like Boyacá that already achieved 100% coverage, arguing that the current distribution system rewards inefficiency. ^[3] Governor Carlos Amaya warned that if the National Government does not provide the required additional $3 billion to finalize the year, the department will have to divert freely disposable resources to cover the deficit. ^[4] Students from the Nutrition and Dietetics program at the Universidad Simón Bolívar are participating as strategic allies to provide their knowledge to the screening process. ^[5] The results of the nutritional screenings will serve as a basis for follow-up actions and strategies to promote healthy habits within educational institutions. ^[6] Katherine Yepes, leader of the nutritional component of the PAE, stated that the process allows for a closer understanding of students' nutritional status to guide necessary follow-up actions. ^[7]
