Police in Taranto, Italy, are investigating a reported sexual assault that allegedly occurred between August 31 and September 1 during the 20th Mediterranean Games. ^[1] The Dominican National Police recovered 21 televisions that were stolen from the Olympic Village in Santo Domingo during the early hours of August 30. ^[2] According to preliminary information, the alleged perpetrator is a young North African athlete. ^[3] The incident allegedly took place in areas reserved for approximately 4,000 athletes housed in an Olympic village installed on two large cruise ships docked at the Taranto Naval Base. ^[4] The victim of the alleged assault is a 25-year-old French athlete. ^[5] Colonel Diego Pesqueira stated that Uriera Robles allegedly located the televisions and planned the robbery, while Reyes Concepción allegedly rented vehicles through deception. ^[6] Colonel Diego Pesqueira, spokesperson for the institution, explained that Álvaro Uriera Robles and Walter David Reyes Concepción were arrested in connection with the case. ^[7] The stolen televisions were originally intended to be delivered to Dominican athletes who were participating in the past Central American and Caribbean Games. ^[8]
